How to Crochet the Shell Stitch Pattern

Introduction

The quantity of stitches is a multiple of 3 + 2.

Row Instructions

Row 1

Starting in the 3rd chain from the hook, [sc, ch2, sc] into the chain. *Skip the next 2 chains and in the 3rd chain [sc, ch2, sc]*, repeat * to * until the end of the row. You’ll end up with 2 chains left, and in the last chain, end with a hdc.

Row 2

Ch 3, 3dc into the 2 chain space from the row below. *Skip until the next 2 chain space and add 3dc into the 2 chain space*, repeat * to * until the end of the row, ending with a dc in the top of the ch 3 turning chain from the end of the previous row. Turn.

Row 3

Ch 2, [sc, ch2, sc] into the 3rd stitch (the center double crochet in the shell from the previous row). *Skip the next 2 stitches and in the 3rd stitch (the center double crochet) [sc, ch2, sc]*, repeat * to * until the end of the row, ending with a hdc in the last stitch. Turn.

Repeating the Rows

Repeat the 2^nd and 3^rd rows to continue the shell stitch pattern.
