  • Chain (ch)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Increase (inc) – 2 sc in one stitch
  • Decrease (dec) – sc 2 stitches together
  • Invisible decrease (worked in front loops only)

Creating the Stem and Leaf

Color F – Green:

Start with a magic circle with 6 sc.

Crochet 6 sc in each stitch (st) for the next 5 rounds (6 sts each round).

Round 7: Ch 7, then make 6 sc down the chain. This creates a tiny leaf. Continue with 6 sc around the stem.

Round 8: Crochet 6 sc, ignoring the leaf.

Transition to Petals

Color G – Purple:

Round 9: 1 sc, 1 inc repeat 3 times (9 sts).

Round 10: 2 sc, 1 inc repeat 3 times (12 sts).

Rounds 11-12: Crochet 12 sc (1 sc in each st).

Forming the Flower

Continue with the purple yarn:

Round 13: 2 sc, 1 dec repeat 3 times (9 sts).

Round 14: 1 sc, 1 dec repeat 3 times (6 sts). Change to orange yarn in the last step of the last decrease.

Top of the Flower

Color - Orange:

Round 15: Crochet 6 sc (1 sc in each st). Cut off the yarn and weave in ends.

Flower Petals

Make 3 with purple yarn:

Start with a magic circle with 6 sc.

Round 2: Make 6 increases (12 sts).

Round 3: 1 sc, 1 inc repeat 6 times (18 sts).

Rounds 4-5: Crochet 18 sc (1 sc in each st).

Round 6: 4 sc, 1 dec repeat 3 times (15 sts).

Round 7: 3 sc, 1 dec repeat 3 times (12 sts).

Round 8: 2 sc, 1 dec repeat 3 times (9 sts).

Round 9: 1 sc, 1 dec repeat 3 times (6 sts). Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Assembling the Crocus

Attach the three flower petals between the colour changes on the stem, slightly overlapping each other.

Use the tail ends to sew the petals onto the stem, securing them so they don’t flare out too much.

Weave in any remaining yarn ends.
