Materials Needed
I used an H hook and Red Heart Super Saver Yarn, but any hook and yarn size would work, it just alters the size of your bag. This is a little bit rough explanation. Beads are optional but add a nice touch.
Creating the Granny Squares
Make 5 basic granny squares (you can find several styles all over the net) in any size you like; mine were only 3 rounds for this. Use one for the base and then attach one on each side of the square and then sew up the sides.
Top Closure Instructions
For the top closure, follow these steps:
- RND 1: Attach yarn in any spot of a square and DC evenly around each of the 4 square tops, slip stitch to the first double crochet.
- RND 2: Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet and chain 1 space), skip the next stitch, *double crochet in the next stitch, chain 1, skip the next stitch, repeat from * around, slip stitch to the second chain of the beginning chain 3.
- RND 3: Double crochet in each stitch around, slip stitch to the first double crochet, fasten off and weave in ends.
Adding Drawstrings
I made two drawstrings of about 70 chains long and weaved them in and out of RND 2. I also added some beads to each end of the drawstring.
