Crochet Bath Mitt

One size.

GAUGES: 16 sts = 4”; 14 rows = 4” in pattern stitch.CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.

Special Abbreviations

sc2tog (sc dec) = Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook.

dc2tog (dc dec) = [Yarn over, insert hook into next st and draw up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops] twice. Yarn over, draw through all loops on hook.

NOTE: To change color, work last yo and pull through loops with new color in last st of old color. Work next stitch with new color. Mitt is worked in rounds from wrist edge to tip.

MITT

With A, ch 40. Slip st in first ch to form a loop.

Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in each ch around, change to B in last st, slip st in top of beginning ch to join – 40 sts.

Round 2: With B, ch 1, sc in each dc around, change to A in last st, slip st to first sc to join.

Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 twice more, then Round 1 once more.

Shape Hand

Round 8: With B, ch 1, work 2 sc in first sc, sc in next 18 sts, [2 sc in next st] twice, sc in next 18 sts, 2 sc in last st, slip st in beginning ch – 44 sts.

Round 9: With A, repeat Round 1.

Round 10: With B, ch 1, sc in first 21 sts, [2 sc in next sc] twice, sc in last 21 sts, slip st in first sc – 46 sts.

Round 11: With A, ch 3, dc in first 20 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in last 21 sts, slip st in top of beginning ch – 48 sts.

Round 12: With B, ch 1, sc in first 21 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in last 21 sts, slip st in first sc – 50 sts.

Round 13: With A, ch 3, dc in first 20 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 6 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in last 21 sts, slip st in top of beginning ch – 52 sts.

Round 14: With B, ch 1, sc in 21 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in last 21 sts, slip st in first sc – 54 sts.

Round 15: With A, ch 3, dc in 20 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in next 10 sts, 2 dc in next st, dc in last 21 sts, slip st in top of beginning ch – 56 sts.

Round 16: With B, ch 1, sc in first 21 sts, 2 sc in next st, skip next 12 sts for Thumb, 2 sc in next st, sc in last 21 sts, slip st in first sc – 46 sts.

Round 17: With A, repeat Round 1 – 46 sts.

Round 18: With B, repeat Round 2.
Repeat Rounds 1-2 on 46 sts until piece measures 7” from beginning, end with Round 1.

Shape Tip

Round 1: With B, ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 18 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 18 sts, sc2tog, slip st in first sc – 42 sts.

Round 2: With A, ch 3, dc2tog, dc in next 15 sts, dc2tog, dc in next 2 sts, dc2tog, dc in next 16 sts, dc2tog, slip st in top of beginning ch – 38 sts.

Round 3: With B, ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 14 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 14 sts, sc2tog, slip st in first sc – 34 sts.

Round 4: With A, ch 3, dc2tog, dc in next 11 sts, dc2tog, dc in next 2 sts, dc2tog, dc in next 12 sts, dc2tog, slip st in top of beginning ch – 30 sts.

Round 5: With B, ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 10 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 10 sts, sc2tog, slip st in first sc – 26 sts.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Thumb

Keeping in pattern st, join B in first st of skipped Thumb sts on Round 16, ch 1, sc in each skipped sc, work 2 sc in next st on Hand, slip st in first sc to join – 14 sts.

Working in pattern st, alternating colors every round, work 5 rounds.

Last Round: With B, ch 1, [sc2tog] around.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

FINISHING

Thread tails at tip of Hand through remaining sts and pull to close. Knot to secure. Repeat to close tip of Thumb.

Weave in ends.
