Crochet Blanket Sizes

If you want to make this in a different size, I have included a few blanket sizes and suggested beginning chain stitches to get you started.

  • Lovey blanket 20 x 20 inches. Starting chain will be about 66-78 chain stitches. Plan on about 600 yards of yarn.
  • Square Baby Blanket 31 X 31 inches. The beginning chain will be about 102-114 chain stitches. About 1,100 yards of yarn.
  • Toddler Blanket or Lapghan 36 X 48 inches. Starting Chain is about 130-138 chain stitches. Plan on about 1,300 yards of yarn.
  • Throw Blanket (small) 48 X 48 – 60 inches. Starting Chain is approximately 178-190 chain stitches. Plan on about 2,600 yards of yarn.
  • Throw Blanket (large) 60 X 72 inches. Plan on a starting chain about 190-202 chain stitches. Plan for approximately 4,000 yards of yarn.

You should be able to read a crochet pattern and work double crochet stitches and chain stitches.

Gauge

13 single crochet stitches and 14 rows for every 4 inches.

Finished Size

30 X 34 inches.

Make your starting chain in multiples of 4 plus 2. Therefore, to adjust the width, use multiples of 4. Therefore, the sample is 4 X 4 = 16 stitches plus 2 = 18 stitches. Adjust the length by adding or decreasing rows.

3 Skeins Caron Simply Soft in Soft Pink. Approximately 945 yards.

1 Skein Caron Simply Soft in White. Approximately 175 yards.

Turn at the end of each row.

You will be working a series of crochet stitches around the chain stitches in the row below that was created by the CH 2. Once you get going, this is a nice crochet project to do if you don’t want a lot of counting.

This pattern is a one row repeat throughout.

This pattern is written in U S Crochet Terms.

Basic Crochet Stitches Used

Double Crochet (DC). Yarn over, insert the hook through both loops and pull up a loop. Next, yarn over and pull through two loops on the hook. Lastly, yarn over again and pull through the last two loops on the hook.

Sober Granny Stitch Cluster. (SC, CH 2, 4 DC) in the same Stitch.

Begin

Chain 114 foundation chain stitches.

Row 1

In the second chain from the hook work 1 SC, CH 2 (Counts as DC). Into the same stitch work 4 DC STs. [SK 3 CH, in the 4th CH from the hook work (SC, CH 2 and 4 DC into the same ST)]. Repeat between [ ] across. End with 1 SC into the last ST. Turn

Row 2

CH 3 (Counts as a DC). In the SC below, work 2 DC. [Skip over to the CH 2 SP. Working around the STs, work a (SC, CH 2, and 4 DC all into the same SP)]. Repeat between [ ] across ending with a SC into the last ST. Turn

Rows 3 through 51

Continue repeating row 2.

Finishing

When you have reached your desired length, cut the yarn leaving about a 12-inch yarn tail. Pull the yarn tail through the last stitch.

Use the yarn needle to weave the yarn through the crochet stitches to secure.

Crochet Border Instructions

Row 1

Turn your work just as you have for each row. Using the White yarn work the sober granny stitches around each side of the blanket.

Pull up a loop in the corner right where you left off. Work the (SC, CH 2, 4 DC) in the SC SP. Skip to the next SC SP and work the sober granny stitch cluster. On the sides, work one sober granny cluster for each row. When you get to the bottom row, I worked the sober granny cluster into the same CH ST where the stitches were worked in the first row. Continue working up the last side. Join with a SL ST to the first SC. Turn

Row 2

CH 1 (Does not count as a ST). Work the (SC, CH 2, 4 DC) in the same SP. Skip to the next CH 2 SP and continue working the sober granny stitch cluster all the way around. When you get back to the starting point, join with a SL ST into the first SC. Then do one more SL ST into the 2nd CH of the first CH 2 of the previous row.

Finishing

Cut the yarn leaving a long tail, about 12-inches. Pull the yarn through the last stitch.

Use the yarn needle to weave the yarn through the crochet stitches to secure.
