Gauge

16 stitches and 6 rows is a 4 inch square.

Pattern

Ch 58 (62, 66, 70, 74)

Row 1: 1 dc in 4th ch from hook (3 missed ch count as 1 dc), 1 dc in next ch, (ch 2, sk next 2 ch, 1 dc in next 2 ch) 13, (14, 15, 16, 17) times, 1 dc in last ch.

30 (32, 34, 36, 38) dc

Row 2: Turn, ch 5 (counts as 1 dc, ch 2), sk 3 dc, (2 dc in next ch 2 sp, ch 2, sk next 2 dc) 13, (14, 15, 16, 17) times, 1 dc in top of turning ch. 28 (30, 32, 34, 36) dc

Row 3: Turn, ch 3, sk 1st dc, (2 dc in next ch 2 sp, ch 2, sk next 2 dc) 13, (14, 15, 16, 17), 2 dc in next ch 2, 1 dc in 3rd ch of turning ch. 30 (32, 34, 36, 38) dc

Remaining Rows

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 17 (18, 19, 20, 21) inches. Fasten off.

Forming Armholes

Fold the piece in half so that the corners of shorter sides of the rectangle are touching. See illustration below.

Join corners with sl stitch and work 1 sc in each stitch around armhole. Work two more rounds of sc. Fasten off. Repeat for the second armhole.

Neckline

Start at joining point of first armhole, work 1 sc in each ch and 2 sc in the end of each dc around the neckline and back of the piece. Work 2 more rounds of sc. See illustration above.
