How to Crochet Cozy Mittens with Lion Brand Yarn

Materials
– Approx. 188 yds (¾ Skein) Lion Brand Heartland Yarn, 5 oz/251 yds or similar #4/worsted weight yarn. (Color pictured is Katmai)
- 5mm crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle to weave in ends

For Both Mittens
Rnd 1: Make magic circle. Ch 1, 8 hdc in ring. Pull tight to close. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st. (8)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in same st as ch 1 and in each st around. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st. (16)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, working in BLO, 2 hdc in same st as ch 1, *hdc in next, 2 hdc in next, repeat from * around. Hdc in last st. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st. (24)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, hdc in same st as ch 1 and in each st around. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st. (24)
Rnd 5: Ch 1, working in BLO, hdc in same st as ch 1 and in each st around. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st. (24)
Rnd 6: Repeat rnd 4
Rnd 7: Repeat rnd 5

Right Mitten
Rnd 19: Ch 1, (sc, dc) in the same st as ch 1, *skip 1 st, (sc, dc) in next, repeat from * 2 more times. Ch 6, skip 3 sts, thumb opening formed. *(sc, dc) in next, skip next st, repeat from * around. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. (22 sts + 6 chs)
Continue below with round 20.
Left Mitten
Rnd 19: Ch 1, (sc, dc) in the same st as ch 1, *skip 1 st, (sc, dc) in next, repeat around until 3 sts remain, ch 6, skip last 3 sts. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. Thumb opening formed. (22 sts + 6 chs)
For Both Mittens
Rnd 20: Ch 1, (sc, dc) in the same st as ch 1. *skip 1 st, (sc, dc) in next, repeat from * around. When working the stitches across the ch 6 from round 19, be sure to work into the actual chain and not around it. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. (28)
Rnd 21-24: Ch 1, (sc, dc) in the same st as ch 1. *skip 1 st, (sc, dc) in next, repeat from * around. Join to top of 1st sc with sl st. (28)
Rnd 25: Ch 1, hdc in same st as ch 1 and each st around. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st. (28)
Rnd 26-28: Ch 1, Fpdc around same st as ch 1, *bpdc around next, fpdc around next, repeat from * around. Bpdc around last st. Join to top of 1st Fpdc with sl st. (28)
Finish off and weave in ends. Continue to thumb instructions.
Thumb - For Both Mittens
Rnd 1: Join yarn at corner of thumb opening. Ch 1, make 14 hdc evenly around. Some of these may be in non-traditional spaces. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st. (14)
Rnd 2-3: Ch 1, hdc in same st as ch 1 and in each st around. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st. (14)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, hdc2tog starting in the same st as ch 1. Hdc in next 5 sts. Hdc2tog over next 2 sts. Hdc in last 5 sts. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st. (12)
Rnd 5-7: Ch 1, hdc in same st as ch 1 and in each st around. Join to top of 1st hdc with sl st.
Rnd 8: Ch 1, hdc2tog starting in the same st as ch 1 and around. Join to top of 1st hdc2tog with sl st. (6)
Finish off, thread tail in and out through the stitches in round 9 using a tapestry needle, pull tight to close. Weave in ends.
