Materials

• Cascade 109 (100% Peruvian Highland Wool; 109yd per 100g ball) in color “Pewter”; 2 skeins

• 1 set US #8 circular needle, 24” or longer

• 1 set US #8 double-pointed needles

• Stitch markers

• Scrap yarn

Gauge

Stockinette: 16 sts / 24 rows = 4 inches

Horseshoe Cable: 20 sts / 24 rows = 4 inches

Finished Measurements

13 inches long x 3.25 inches wide mid-point

Abbreviations

6-st LC: 6-stitch left-leaning cable. Slip three stitches to cable needle and hold in front; knit next three stitches; knit three stitches from cable needle.

6-st RC: 6-stitch right-leaning cable. Slip three stitches to cable needle and hold in back; knit next three stitches; knit three stitches from cable needle.

6-st LPC: 6-stitch left-leaning cable. Slip three stitches to cable needle and hold in front; purl next three stitches; knit three stitches from cable needle.

6-st RPC: 6-stitch right-leaning cable. Slip three stitches to cable needle and hold in back; knit next three stitches; purl three stitches from cable needle.

M1R: From the back, lift loop between stitches with left needle, knit into front of loop.

M1L: From the front, lift loop between stitches with left needle, knit into back of loop.

M1: Make one (use your preferred method).

k2tog: Knit two together.

k3tog: Knit three together.

ssk: Slip one stitch knit-wise, then slip the next. Insert left needle into the front loops of the slipped stitches and knit them together from this position (through the back loops).

sssk: Same as ssk except you slip three stitches knit-wise, one after the other.

With US #8 circular, cast on 43 stitches and join in the round using the magic loop method.

Divide your 11 live stitches across three #8 dpns as follows: 4, 4, 3

Row 1: knit across all stitches, pick up 4 stitches in the open gap, and join in the round.

Row 2: knit to last 4 stitches, [k2tog] x2

Rows 3-12: knit

Rows 13 & 14: [k2tog]; repeat until only 4 stitches are left.

Break your thread leaving a 6” tail and thread it through the remaining 4 live stitches. Cinch and tie off. Weave in all ends, wet block.
