Complete Guide to Crochet Comb, Wattle, and Beak Patterns



You’ll Need:
1 skein of Drops Paris Uni color yarn in Vanilla (No 35), Small amount of Red (No 12), small amount of orange, and a long piece of black color yarn for sewing eyes.
Crochet hook 5 mm.
Tapestry needle.
Stitch markers.
Scissors.

Instructions:
Make 2.
Base Creation
With Yellow color make a magic/adjustable ring.
Round 1: ch 1, 10 hdc into the ring, sl st to the first st. (10 sts)
Round 2: ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, sl st to the first st. (20 sts)
Round 3: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first st. (30 sts)
Round 4: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 2 st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first st. (40 sts)
Round 5: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 3 st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first st. (50 sts)
Round 6: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 4 st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first st. (60 sts)
Round 7: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 5 st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first st. (70 sts)
Round 8: ch 1, 2 hdc in first st, *hdc in each of next 6 st, 2 hdc in next st; repeat * to around, sl st to the first st. (80 sts)
Fasten off and weave the ends.
Comb (Crest)
With Red color, ch 14.
Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from the hook, sc in each st across, turn. (13 sts)
Row 2: ch 1, sc in first st, sk next st, 5 dc in next st, sk next st, sc in next st, sk next st, 7 tr in next st, sk next st, sc in next st, sk next st, 5 dc in next st, sk next st, sc in last st. Fasten off and cut the yarn leaving about 12″ long yarn tail.
Wattle
With Red color, ch 4, 2 tr in 4th ch from the hook, ch 4, sl st to the same st, ch 3, dc in same st, ch 3, sl st to the same st.
Fasten off and cut the yarn leaving about 8″ long yarn tail.
Beak
With Orange color, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from the hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch. Fasten off and cut the yarn leaving about 8″ long yarn tail.
Finishing:
Get one circle and attach a stitch marker in one of the stitches. We are going to sew facial features on this marked circle and the marked stitch for making a hanging loop. So make sure to attach facial features when the marked stitch is facing up. Sew comb, wattle, and beak with the yarn tail and tapestry needle. With black color yarn, embroider 2 ears just above the beak.
