Helping our users. Crochet Sleeping Sack.

You’ll need:

400g Aran / worsted weight yarn;

Crochet hook 5 mm;

10 ¾ “ buttons.

Size: 15” wide Sack part – 15” Hood - 8”

Total length – 23”

Instructions

Ch. 52.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch. From hook, and in each remaining st. Turn . ( 51 sts ).

Row 2: Ch 1. Dc in Same st. and in each Sc to end. Turn ( 51 sts ).

Row 3: Ch1. Sc in the Same st. and each remaining st. to end. Turn. ( 51 sts).

Row 4: Ch1. Dc in same st, then DC in the next 2 sts. * FPtr around the next Dc in the Dc row below, BR (Braid) over the next 3 sts in the Dc row below, FPtr around next st in the dc row below, Dc in the next 5 sts *. Repeat from * to * ending last repeat with Dc 3 in the final 3 sts, (instead of Dc 5 ). Turn. (51 sts).

Row 5: Ch1. Sc in same st, and each st across to end . Turn. (51sts)

Row 6: Ch1, Dc in the same st, then Dc in the next 2 sts. *FPtr around next FPtr in the Dc row below, BR over the next 3 BR sts in the DC row below as follows : Skip first FPtr, (Fptr over next FPtr) twice. FPtr over skipped FPtr. FPtr around next FPtr in the Dc row below,. Dc in next 5 sts.*. Repeat from * to * across to end, ending last repeat with Dc in the last 3 sts (instead of 5). Turn (51sts)

Repeat rows 5 and 6 for pattern, until your work measures approx.. 37” or desired length.

Fasten off.

With right side of work facing, fold the 2 top edges of work together to meet in the middle. This forms the hood. Sl. St the 2 edges together. Fasten off, and weave in ends. Turn hood right side out.

Border

With right side of work facing, Ch1, then Sc evenly all around the sack. Remember to place 3 Sc in each of the bottom 2 corners. Join with a Sl.st. to the first Sc.

Next Row: Ch1, Sc in each Sc all around the sack. Placing 3 Sc in each of the bottom 2 corners. Join with a Sl. St to First Sc.

Do not fasten off.

With wrong side of work facing you, lay work flat, and fold the bottom half of the sack up (until its approx. 1” short of beginning of hood).

We need to evenly space 5 buttonholes down each side.

So using a contrasting yarn, or stitch markers, place one at the top of the sack part, one at the bottom of the sack part, one in the centre.

Then evenly place the other 2 markers.

Repeat for other side.

Buttonhole Row: With right side of work facing, Ch1, then continue with Sc around the sack until you reach a stitch marker. *Ch2, skip 2 stitches, then sc until the next stitch marker*.

Repeat this to make the buttonholes and sc around remaining stitches remembering to place 3 sc in each of the bottom 2 corners as before.

Next Row: Ch1, Sc in each stitch around, placing 2 sc stitches in each of the ch2 spaces that make the buttonholes. And placing 3 sc in each of the 2 corners.

Edging

The edging is optional, but I think it finishes the sleep sack off nicely. So continue around for 1 more row, only this time using the Crab stitch (or reverse Sc) as described in the notes above. (Do not place 3 in each of the 2 bottom corners) Sl.st to first stitch. Fasten off, and sew in ends. Now all that is required to do is sew 5 buttons down each side of the sack, to correspond with the matching buttonholes.
