Cross Stitch Techniques for Knitting Patterns


Crossing Stitches to the Right
To cross 4 stitches to the right, transfer 2 stitches to the auxiliary needle and leave it behind the work. Then knit 2 stitches, followed by knitting the 2 stitches from the auxiliary needle.
Crossing Stitches to the Left
To cross 4 stitches to the left, transfer 2 stitches to the auxiliary needle and leave it in front of the work.

The total quantity of stitches is 20 stitches plus 4 auxiliary stitches. Please note that the selvedge stitches are not included in the pattern repeat.
Row Instructions
1st Row
2 purls, *6 knit stitches, cross 4 stitches right, cross 4 stitches left, 6 knit stitches*, 2 purls;
Even Rows
For the 2nd and all subsequent even rows: knit according to the ornament.
3rd Row
2 purls, *4 knit stitches, cross 4 stitches right, 4 knit stitches, cross 4 stitches left, 4 knit stitches*, 2 purls;
5th Row
2 purls, *cross 4 stitches right, 8 knit stitches, cross 4 stitches left, 2 knit stitches*, 2 purls;
7th Row
2 purls, *cross 4 stitches right, 12 knit stitches, cross 4 stitches left*, 2 purls.
Repetition for Desired Height
Repeat these 8 rows to achieve the needed height for your project.
