You'll Need

Here’s a list of materials required for this project:

  • Resin Obsession Super Clear Resin
  • 738 Cabochon Mold
  • Castin’ Craft mold release and conditioner
  • Reusable measuring cup
  • Stir Stix
  • Disposable Spoon (optional)
  • White glitter
  • Castin’ Craft transparent green dye
  • Rolling pin
  • Non-stick mat

Instructions

Follow these steps to create your faux sea glass:

  1. Spray the 738 mold with the Castin’ Craft mold release and conditioner and leave to dry for a couple of hours.
  2. Measure your resin into a mixing cup according to the directions—specific amount of resin plus specific amount of hardener. Mix well and leave to stand for a couple of minutes.
  3. Add a small amount of dye to the mix until it reaches your desired color. Then add just a pinch of white glitter and mix well; this is the secret to achieving realism!
  4. Pour the mixture into the mold until half-full and leave to partially set. Placing it inside a hot box or under a light bulb can speed up the setting process, but it’s also fine to let it set in a normal environment. This mold is preferred as it creates nicely sized pieces—when half-full, it provides a realistic-sized pendant.
  5. The resin is ready for manipulation when the surface is no longer wet, but the mixture remains soft when pressed from below the mold. Monitor the curing as different room conditions can affect the time it takes to reach this stage.
  6. Carefully pull the resin out of the mold using a blunt object like Stir Stix, being mindful not to damage your mold. Any extra pieces left inside can be picked off once fully cured.
  7. If you prefer smaller pieces, tear the resin; otherwise, keep the blob whole for a decent-sized pendant. Shape it roughly with your hands and place it on a non-stick mat. Don't stress about fingerprints; they will slightly frost the surface, which is beneficial, and most will disappear once fully cured as it smooths out a bit more.
  8. Using a rolling pin, lightly flatten the piece on the drying mat to mimic the thickness of old glass.
  9. Leave the piece to set in a cool environment for at least 4-5 hours. After that, feel free to drill and customize your faux sea glass as you wish!
