A Step-by-Step Guide to Knitting Patterns and Techniques

Understanding the Pattern Scheme
In the scheme of the pattern, each square represents 1 stitch. An empty square indicates a knit stitch, while a square with a circle indicates a purl stitch.
Starting the Knitting Project
Make uneven rows on the right side and even rows on the left.
Pattern Dimensions
Preparing for the Pattern
Side stitches are not included in the pattern. Therefore, when casting on the stitches for the pattern, add 2 extra stitches (for the sides). One pattern equals 7 stitches; two patterns equal 12 stitches, etc.
