Materials Needed

For this project you’ll need:

• HOOK: 5 mm / H hook and a 3.5 mm / E hook
• YARN: 2 different color Worsted weight yarns, 4 ply US / 10 ply AU
• A tapestry needle.

Instructions

To Start: Using Your 5mm Hook

Ch 11

Round 1

dc in 3rd ch from hook and in rest of sts for a total of 10 DC’s. Pivot your work to work along bottom stitches, DC in the last stitch worked again. This gives you two dc’s in last stitch, then continue to DC along the bottom stitches until you have 9 DC’s on this side. Sl st into beg st.

Round 2

ch 2 and DC into next stitch to the RIGHT to make your first Cross Stitch. Then continue making your cross stitches for a total of 10 for the complete round.

Rounds 3 – 8

Continue to repeat round 2, making your CS’s and sl st into beg stitch until you have 8 total rows completed of CS’s.

Making the Flap

Round 1

Line up 10 stitches across your cell phone holder, making sure to get the most centered 10 stitches. Ch 3 and DC into the next 9 sts for a total of 10 dc’s.

Rounds 2 & 3

ch 3 and repeat 2 more rounds for 3 rounds total, ch 1 and cut your yarn. Work in tail.

Making the Button

Change to Your 3.5 mm / E Hook

To Start: Ch 3, sl st into beg ch.

Round 1

ch 1 and sc in next 8 sts. Ch 1 cut yarn leaving a long tail to use for sewing your button on.

Use your tapestry needle and sew around the center of your button, leaving the sides loose to grab the button hole as shown below.

NOTE:

If you're making this holder to be attached to a bag, I suggest you wait until after you have the lining to attach it. The instructions below are only if you plan on attaching it to a crocheted bag.

Once you're ready, sl st to attach your yarn to the corner of the holder. Ch 30 with your 3.5 mm / E hook and using the same color you made the cell phone holder with, and without tightening your last loop, cut a long tail to use for attaching to the bag.

Find a stitch to attach it to under the handle toward the back of the bag and start to sl st, do at least 2 more slip stitches, working to the left. Make a few good knots to secure it.

Making the Flower

Using your 3.5 mm / E hook

To Start

Ch 3, sl st into beginning st to form a ring.

Round 1

Ch 1 and sc 11 into ring. Sl st into beg st. Ch 1 fasten off yarn.

Take your other colors you want to use for your petals and sl st it to any stitch. Ch 7 and sl st into next stitch. Repeat until you have 11 petals. Leave a tail long enough to sew your flower onto your cell phone holder.
