How to Crochet a Whimsical Curlicue

Wouldn't it be such a delight to crochet a curlicue? This whimsical little crochet project is not just fun to make, but also adds a playful touch to any DIY creation. Whether you're a seasoned crocheter or just starting out, the curlicue pattern is perfect for adding a touch of charm to your handcrafted pieces. Give it a try and let your creativity run wild as you crochet your very own curlicue with a friendly twist!
For this project, I’m using an H (5.0 mm) crochet hook and some worsted weight yarn I had laying around. I used a variegated yarn, but a solid or self-striping yarn looks equally great too!

Starting the Curlicue
To begin, make a chain as long as you would like your curlicue to be plus 3 chains (the one shown here is a multiple of 20+3).

Creating the Base of the Curlicue
Then make one double crochet in the 4th chain from the hook.
In the same chain, make another double crochet.

Building the Curlicue Shape
Now make 3 double crochets in each chain until you reach the end (here is how it looks about halfway through).

See the curlicue starting to emerge as you move along? Now keep going until you reach the very last chain at the end!
