What You Need

  • Worsted weight acrylic yarn
  • Light and dark shades of a similar color
  • Size F (3.75 mm) hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Polyester fiber fill

Macaron Instructions

Work in continuous rounds:

  • Chain 2 in main color
  • Round 1: Work 6 sc in the first chain
  • Round 2: Work 2 sc in each sc around - 12 st
  • Round 3: *2 sc in next st, sc in next st; repeat from * around - 18 st
  • Round 4: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 2 sts; repeat from * around - 24 st
  • Round 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * around - 30 st
  • Round 6: *2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 4 sts; repeat from * around - 36 st
  • Round 7: Sc in each sc - 36 st
  • Rounds 8-9: Switch to accent color, sc in each sc - 36 st
  • Round 10: Switch back to main color, sc in each sc - 36 st
  • Round 11: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 4 sts; repeat from * around - 30 st
  • Round 12: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 3 sts; repeat from * around - 24 st
  • Round 13: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 2 sts; repeat from * around - 18 st
  • Round 14: *Sc2tog, sc in each of next 1 sts; repeat from * around - 12 st
  • Stuff firmly
  • Round 15: Sc2tog around - 6 st
  • Sew up the end and weave in the end

Finishing Touches

To create the little ridge around the "top" and "bottom," I surface crocheted.

I did the bottom band first. Hold the cookie right side up and work around. I used the bottom stitch of the center color. The surface crochet should be lined up flush with the center with the recess facing downward.

For the top, hold the cookie upside down. I used the stitch above the center color. This row should be a mirror image to the bottom; the crochet should be flush with the center and the recess facing upwards. Weave in ends.
