Crochet Happy Bee Bookmark

Materials -needed to produce the product pictured above: ( Note: You can use any size hook or yarn to get a different size or color desired.

  • Hook- B-2mm
  • Main color (MC) – small amount fingering weight cotton yarn – Yellow
  • Contrasting color (CC) small amount fingering weight cotton yarn – black
  • small amount of fingering weight cotton yarn in white for flower
  • small amount of fiberfill
  • yarn needle or tapestry needle

Terms you will need to know for this pattern:

  • MC-Main color
  • CC – Contrasting color
  • MR – Magic ring
  • INC – Increase (2 stitches in same stitch)
  • DEC- Decrease (Decrease 2 stitches together)
  • CH- Chain
  • SS – slip stitch
  • SC – Single crochet
  • DC – Double crochet
  • HDC – Half double crochet

Bee Body

R1- With MC start with a MR , crochet 6 sc in MR (6)

R2- INC (2sc) in each stitch around (12)

R3 – (INC,SC1) around (18)

R4 -5- SC in each stitch around for 2 rows(18)

R6-7 -Change to CC , SC in each stitch around for 2 rows (18)

R8-10 switch back to MC, 1SC in each stitch around for 3 rows (18)

R11- switch to CC, (1sc,1dec) around (12)- add stuffing

R12- 1 SC in each stitch around (12)

R13 – Dec x 6 (6)

Finish off, leave long tail for sewing. With yarn needle sew a gathering stitch to close. Finish off and weave end through the body to the front end of bee (where the face will be). Sew 2 stitches for eyes and a mouth if desired with same yarn. weave back through body, out of any stitch, cut yarn close to body.

Wings (make 2)

With white -MR, 6sc inside MR, pull tight finish off and leave long end for sewing to body. Attach wings to back of body with yarn needle. Pass ends through body to an opposite stitch in the body, knot off and pull knot back through same hole through body to secure, hiding knot. cut yarn close to body.

Stinger – optional

With small amount CC – Ch 2. Finish off but leave a long tail for sewing to body, cut other end short. Place at rear of bee and weave end through the body a couple of times to secure.

Flower-Center

  • R1- With MC 5sc inside MR
  • R2- INC in each st around (10)
  • R3 – sc in each st around(10)
  • Finish off

Petals -Attach white yarn and ch 10, dc in third ch from hook and in next 6 ch, hdc in last ch,(7dc,1hdc) ss in next sc of center, repeat around. Finish off, weave in ends

Make a chain as long as desired. (I chained 75) leave long tail on both ends for attaching to flower and Bee. Using yarn needle sew to flower and weave in tail end. Sew to Bee in the middle of the body between the wings. Weave end through bee a couple of times and cut yarn close to body.
