Understanding Chain Stitches
The quantity of stitches is a multiple of 8 plus 4 plus 1 chain stitch increase.
Row Instructions
1st Row
(Right side) Skip 2 chains (count as 1 single crochet), 1 single crochet into the next and each chain to the end, turn;
2nd Row
3 chains (count as 1 double crochet), skip 1 stitch, *2 crossed chains over the next 2 stitches, 1 double crochet into each of the next 6 stitches; repeat from * to last 3 stitches, 2 crossed chains over the next 2 stitches, 1 double crochet into the turning chain, turn;
3rd Row
1 chain (counts as 1 single crochet), skip 1 stitch, 1 single crochet into the next and each stitch to the end, working the last stitch into the top of the turning chain, turn;
4th Row
3 chains (counts as 1 double crochet), skip 1 stitch, 1 double crochet into each of the next 4 stitches, *2 crossed chains over the next 2 stitches, 1 double crochet into each of the next 6 stitches; repeat from * to the last 7 stitches, 2 crossed chains over the next 2 stitches, 1 double crochet into each of the last 5 stitches, working the last stitch into the turning chain, turn;
5th Row
Same as the 3rd row.
Repeating Rows
Repeat the 2nd to 5th rows for the desired length.
