You'll need:

80g for adult hat and about 70g for child hat of yarn (50% wool, 50% fiber, 225m/50g) in 2 threads of yarn;

Circle knitting needles (40-50 сm) and double pointed knitting needles 3,5 mm;

Double pointed knitting needles 3,0 mm.

Instructions

Size of adult hat: 58,5-59 cm;

Size of child hat: 50 cm.

Cast in 120 sts + 1 st for closing in a circle (adult hat), 100 sts + 1 st for closing in a circle (child hat). Pay attention, that pattern repeat is 4 sts, that's why the quantity of sts should be multipled 4 (in case you need to change the quantity of sts).

Knit around with 2 x 2 rib in height. 25 cm = 64 rows for adult hat, and 23 cm = 59 rows for child hat.

Make a Crown

Turn to double-pointed knitting needles, as after the 1st row of decreases, maybe, it'll be uncomfortable to knit.

It's better to have even number of pattern repeats to follow the given scheme.

1st row of decreases: * 1 knit st, slip 2nd knit st throug front loop, 1 purl, broaching (throw the slipped knit st through purl on the right-hand needle with the help of left-hand needle), 1 purl*. Repeat from * to * to end of row.

Then, make 2-3 cm due to the pattern, i.e., 2 knit sts, 1 purl. It's about 8-9 rows.

2nd row of decreases: * 1 knit st, knit3tog through front loop, 1 knit st, 1 purl*. Repeat from * to * to end of row.

Then, knit smoothing row due to the ornament without decreases, i.e., * 3 knit sts, 1 purl*.

3rd row of decreases: * knit3tog through front loop, 1 purl*. Repeat from * to * to end of row.

Then, smoothing row: * 1 knit st, 1 purl*.

4th row of decreases: make the same decrease, as in the 1st row, i.e., slip knit st, 1 purl, then throw the slipped knit st on the purl.

Tighten the sts and hide the end of yarn inside the hat.
