- Ch 3 counts as a Double Crochet.
- Add more rows of sc if you would like thicker handles.
Pattern
Step 1 - Starting At The Base Of The Bag
RND 1: With C1, ch 35
*2 sc in the 2nd ch from the hook, 1 sc in each ch across,
2 sc in the last ch, working down the opposite side of the ch, repeat from *, join, ch 1 (72 sc)
RND 2: 1 sc in each sc around, join, ch 1 (72 sc)
RND 3: 1 sc in each sc around, join, ch 1 (72 sc)
RND 4: 1 sc in each sc, join, ch 3 (72 sc)
Repeat RND 4 if a thicker bag base is desired.
Step 2 - Body of The Bag
RND 5: 2 dc in the same st as the ch 3, *skip next 2 sts, 3 dc in the next st*, repeat from *to* around, sk last 3 sts, join, ch 3 (24 shells)
RND 6: Sl st in the next dc, slst to the next sp between the 1st and 2nd shst, ch 3, 2 dc in first space between shell stitches, 3 dc in each space between the shell stitches around, join. (24 shells)
RND 7: Sl st in the next dc, slst to the next sp between the 1st and 2nd shst, ch 3, 2 dc in first space between shell stitches, 3 dc in each space between the shell stitches around, join. Ch 3 (24 shells)
RND 8: 1 dc in each st around, join, ch 3 (72 dc)
RND 9 – RND 10: Repeat RND 8
RND 11: Repeat RND 5
RND 12 - 13: Repeat RND 6 - RND 7
RND 14 - 16: Repeat RND 8 - do not ch 3 after RND 16
Continue to repeat RND 5 - RND 10 if a taller bag is wanted.
Step 3 - The Bag Handles
NOTE: slst back to the corner for 3 sts
RND 17: 1 sc in the 3 slsts, 1 sc in each dc around, join to the 1st sc, ch 1 (72 sc)
RND 18 - RND 20: 1 sc in each dc around, join, ch 1 (72 dc)
RND 21: With C1, forming the handle, 11 sc, ch 20, skip next 14 sts, join in the next st with a sc, 21 sc, ch 20, skip 14 sts, 11 sc, join, ch 1
(Check to make sure handles are spaced evenly).
RND 22: 1 sc in each sc and ch around, join ch 1 (84 sc)
RND 23: 1 sc in each sc, join, tie off, weave in your ends.
Repeat RND 23 if a thicker handle is wanted.
