• Stella Chunky Yarn (or any substitute chunky yarn, just note the thickness may vary)

Pattern Instructions

Start with a Slip Knot

Create a simple slip knot. Insert your hook and pull tight.

Chain 81 Stitches

Yarn over and pull through to chain. Repeat until you have 81 chains.

Row 1 - Slip Stitches and Single Crochets

Start in the second chain from the hook, working either in the chain or the back bump for a cleaner edge. Do 15 slip stitches (insert hook, yarn over, and pull through all loops). Place a stitch marker on the last slip stitch. Do 50 single crochets (insert hook into the next loop, yarn over, pull through, two loops on hook, yarn over, pull through both loops). Finish the row with another 15 slip stitches. Chain one and turn.

Row 2 - Working in the Loops

15 slip stitches working in the front loop only. Use a stitch marker to mark the last slip stitch. Do 50 single crochets, but with a modification: work in the back horizontal loop (back bump) behind the stitch. This creates the ribbed texture. Finish with another 15 slip stitches in the front loop only. Chain one and turn.

Repeat and Alternate Rows

Continue the pattern from Row 2, altering each row between 50 single crochets and 50 modified single crochets with the ribbed texture.

Completion

After 12 rows (or however wide you want your headband, the last row should end with modified single crochets for a uniform end. To finish, cut a long yarn tail after the last chain. Pull the tail through the final loop and tighten to secure.

Seam and Finish

Align the two ends of the headband, with the wrong sides facing you. Use the mattress stitch and the yarn tail to seam the ends together neatly. Weave in any loose ends with the darning needle.
