Materials

  • Small amount of worsted weight yarn in heart color
  • Crochet hooks size G (4.25mm) and E (3.5mm)
  • Small amount of size 10 (bedspread weight) cotton in 2 colors

Notes

  • Always start rows of double crochet (dc) with chain 3; this counts as the first stitch.
  • Always start rows of single crochet (sc) with chain 1; this does not count as the first stitch. Sc in the same stitch to begin.
  • To double crochet 2 stitches together: leaving the last loop of each stitch on the hook, dc in 2 stitches, yarn over (yo), draw through all loops.
  • To single crochet 2 stitches together: draw up a loop in each of the 2 stitches, yo, draw through all loops.

Abbreviated Crochet Instructions

With the larger hook and worsted weight yarn, start with chain 3. Join with slip stitch to form a ring.

Row 1: Ch3, 3dc in ring, turn. (4dc)

Rows 2-4: 2dc in first stitch, dc to last, 2dc in last stitch. (10dc)

Row 5: Dc in first 3 stitches, dc the next 2 together, turn. (4)

Row 6: (sc 2 sts together) twice. Fasten off (FO).

Join yarn in first stitch of row 4. Dc in 3 stitches, dc 2 stitches together, turn. The decrease will be in the last unworked stitch of row 4, the same stitch as the decrease of the first hump of the heart.
Repeat row 6. FO.

Finishing Touches

With the smaller hook and 2 strands of size 10 cotton held together, join with a slip stitch in the bottom point. Sc evenly around.
Rounds 2: (sc, ch3) in each stitch. Stop 2 stitches away from the top "V" corner of the heart. Ch3, skip 2 stitches, slip stitch in the center stitch. Ch3, skip 2 stitches, (sc, ch3) in each remaining stitch, join. FO.

Weave in all ends and glue a magnetic strip to the back.
