Skill Level

Size

Teen/Adult - approx. 11” diameter across top.
Stretches to fit 22” circumference at forehead.

Materials

  • 140 yds. bulky wt. mohair-look yarn (samples shown in Lion Brand Yarns “Jiffy” (blue) and Patons “Divine” (natural & pink)
  • Size J/10 (6 mm) crochet hook, or size needed to achieve gauge
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge

With Lion Brand Yarns “Jiffy”: 10.5 dc & 5.5 rows = 4” on size J/10 (6 mm) hook
With Patons “Divine”: 10 dc & 4.5 rows = 4” on size J/10 (6 mm) hook

Note on Sizing

Because Patons “Divine” is more textured than Lion Brand Yarns “Jiffy” and works to a larger gauge, it may result in a slightly larger beret.

Rounds

Rnd 1: Ch 3, work 11 dc in ring (12 dc). Do not join or turn on this and all rounds through Rnd 9. Place contrast yarn marker and carry it up as you work to note the beginning of each new round.

Rnd 2 (inc rnd): To begin continuous spiral, dc in 2nd ch of beg ch-3 on Rnd 1, dc in 3rd ch (top) of beg ch-3, *2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, do not join (24 dc)

Rnd 3 (inc rnd): *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, rep from * around, do not join (36 dc)

Rnd 4 (inc rnd): *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, rep from * around, do not join (48 dc)

Rnd 5 (inc rnd): *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 3 dc, rep from * around, do not join (60 dc)

Rnd 6 (inc rnd): *2 dc in next dc, dc in next 4 dc, rep from * around, do not join (72 dc)
