Special Stitches

Long Double Crochet (ldc): Work double crochet around and in front of the previous row and into the stitch indicated one row below.

Cluster: Working in spaces between groups of 3dc place: (dc, ldc in middle st of cluster below, dc) into space

Free Crochet Dishcloth Pattern

When working ldc be sure to bring the height of the stitch up to match the height of the dc previously made in the space between the clusters.

Turning chain does not count as stitch.

Ch 29

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from the hook and each ch across (28). Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: 3 dc in 1st sc, sk next 2 sc *3dc in next sc, sk next 2 sc* rpt from * to * to last 3 sc. Hdc in last st. Ch 1, turn. (28)

Note for row 3: Long double crochet stitches being worked under spaces for row 3 are worked into the sc of row 1.

Row 3: Working in space before 1st cluster, (dc, ldc in 1st sc below space, dc). *Sk next cluster, in space before next cluster (dc, ldc in 1st sc below space, dc).* Repeat from *to* to last 3 sts. Skip next 2 sts, hdc in last st. Ch1, turn. (28)

Rows 4 – 21: Working in space before 1st cluster, (dc, ldc in middle st of cluster below, dc). *Sk next cluster, in space before next cluster (dc, ldc in 2nd st of cluster below, dc).* Repeat from *to* to last 3 sts. Skip next 2 sts, hdc in last st. Ch 1, turn. (28)

Note for finishing row: You will no longer be working into the spaces. Work directly into stitches as instructed below.

Finishing Row: Dc in middle st of cluster below, sk next st, sc in next 2 sts. *dc in middle st of cluster below, sk next, sc in next 2 sts.* Repeat from *to* to last 3 sts. Skip next st, sc in the last 2 sts. Fasten off leaving tail long enough to weave in.

Scalloped Edging

At this point you will be working rows of single crochet along 3 sides of the dishcloth. Ending at row 1.

Join yarn to last stitch of first row. Ch 1 counts as st.

Rnd 1: Place 2 sc in same stitch as join. Working down the side of the dishcloth sc in the end of each row. Place 3 single crochets in each corner stitch and turn your work so you are now working along the top of the dishcloth.

Work sc in each stitch across. Place 3 single crochets in each corner stitch and turn your work so you are now working along the top of the dishcloth.

Working down the side of the dishcloth sc in the end of each row. Place 3 single crochets in the corner stitch of row 1 of the dishcloth.

Note: When working round 2 skip only 1 stitch at the corners.

Rnd 2: Work sc in 1st and each stitch around. Join with slst to 1st sc. Ch 1, turn.

Rnd 3: Ch 3, skip next st, slst in next. *Ch 3, sk next st, slst in next* rpt from *to* around the entire dishcloth.

Join to beginning stitch with slst, fasten off and weave in ends.
