You’ll Need:

450 (450) 500g of dark-red yarn Schachenmayr Original Merino Extrafine 85 yarn (100% wool; 85m/50g);

50g of the same yarn, but in orange color;

Knitting needles 6 and 7;

Tapestry needle;

2 buttons.

 

Size:

4-5 (6-7) 8-9 years.

 

Used Patterns

  • 1 x 1 rib.
  • Stockinette stitch: in RS row – knit sts, in WS row – purls.
  • Main pattern: due to the scheme.
    Start with sts before pattern repeat, pattern repeat, finish with sts after pattern repeat. After the 1st-2nd rows, repeat 3rd-14th rows.

 

Stitches Control:

12 sts x 19 rows = 10 x 10 cm.

 

Instructions

Back

Cast on 49 (53) 57 sts with orange yarn and knitting needles 6 and make 1 WS row of purls, then, make 4 rows of rib with dark-red yarn, starting with 1 selvage st, 2 purls (1 purl) 1 knit st, 2 purls and finish in symmetry. Change to knitting needles 7, make 1 WS row of purls with the main pattern and dark-red yarn. In 17.5 (19.5) 23.5 cm = 33 (37) 45 rows from placket, bind off 4 sts from both sides for arm-holes = 41 (45) 49 sts. In 35.5 (39.5) 45.5 cm = 67 (75) 87 rows from placket, bind off all sts.

 

Left Front

Cast on 25 (27) 30 sts with orange yarn and knitting needles 6, make 1 WS row of purls, then, make 4 rows of rib, starting in the same way as for back. Change to knitting needles 7, make 1 WS row of purls with dark-red yarn and work with the main pattern, starting work due to the scheme after selvage st. In 17.5 (19.5) 23.5 cm = 33 (37) 45 rows from placket, bind off 4 (5) 5 sts and 1 x 2 sts and 2 x 1 st in every 2nd row in 29 (33) 39 cm = 55 (63) 75 rows from placket. In 40 (44) 50 cm from the set-up row, bind off the rest 13 (14) 17 sts of shoulder.

 

Right Front

Make in symmetry to the left front.

 

Sleeves

Cast on 25 (29) 29 sts with orange yarn and knitting needles 6 and make 1 WS row of purls and work with rib with dark-red yarn, after selvage st, starting with 2 purls (1 purl) 1 purl. In 9 cm = 9 rows from the set-up row change to knitting needles 7, make 1 WS row of purls for flap, then, work with the main pattern. Increase 1 x 1 st in the 7th row from placket for chamfers, then, 3 (7) 5 x 1 st in every 6th row and 6 (2) 7 x 1 st in every 4th row = 45 (49) 55 sts. In 29.5 (33.5) 37.5 cm = 56 (64) 72 rows from placket, finish your work.

 

Assembly

Make shoulder seams. Sew up the sleeves, make sleeve and side seams. For the collar, cast on 53 (56) 59 sts with knitting needles 6 and dark-red yarn and work with rib, starting with 1 selvage st and 1 purl, then, make (1 knit st, 2 purls)*; repeat from * to *, finish with 1 knit st, 1 purl, 1 selvage st. Sew buttons.
