Knitting Needle Requirements

Knitting Needle Size: 7 or 4.5 mm, Circular Knitting Needles, Double-Pointed Knitting Needles (DPNs)

Yarn Specifications

Yarn Weight: (4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

Gauge

19 sts and 24 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st.

Finished Size

Approx 22" [56 cm] around and 10" [25.5 cm] high.

Materials List

  • Bernat® Super Value (7 oz/197 g; 426 yds/389 m)
  • Contrast A: Damson (07797) - 1 ball
  • Contrast B: Light Damson (07773) - 1 ball
  • Size U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) knitting needles
  • Set of four size U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) double-pointed knitting needles
  • Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) circular knitting needle 24" [60 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Stuffing
  • Pink, black, and white felt for eyes, nose, mouth, and whiskers

Instructions

Stripe Pattern

With A, work 8 rows in stocking st.

With B, work 8 rows in stocking st.

These 16 rows form Stripe Pat.

Body (Make 3)

With A, cast on 34 sts.

Proceed in Stripe Pat until 36 rows of Pat are completed.

Dec 1 st each end of the next and every following 4th row to 26 sts, then every following alt row to 14 sts, then every row to 4 sts.

Break yarn, leaving a long end. Thread end through rem sts. Draw up and fasten securely.

Ears (Make 2 Each in A and B)

Cast on 8 sts.

Work 8 rows in stocking st.

Dec 1 st each end of the next and every following alt row to 2 sts.

Next row: P2tog. Fasten off.

With WS facing each other, sew Ear made with A to Ear made with B.

Tail

With A, cast on 24 sts.

Work 16 rows of Stripe Pat.

Keeping cont of Stripe Pat, dec 1 st at each end of 3rd and every following 8th row to 10 sts.

Work 5 rows even.

Break yarn, leaving a long end.

Thread end through rem sts. Draw up and fasten securely. Sew Tail seam.

Base

With a pair of double-pointed needles and A, cast on 4 sts.

1st rnd: Inc 1 st in each st to end of row. Divide these 8 sts onto 3 needles. Join in rnd, placing marker on the first st.

2nd and alt rnds: Knit.

3rd rnd: *Inc 1 st in next st. Rep from * around. 16 sts.

5th rnd: *Inc 1 st in next st. K1. Rep from * around. 24 sts.

7th rnd: *Inc 1 st in next st. K2. Rep from * around. 32 sts.

9th rnd: *Inc 1 st in next st. K3. Rep from * around. 40 sts.

Continue in this manner to 104 sts, transferring sts onto a circular needle when necessary. Cast off.

Finishing Touches

With RS facing, sew the sides of the Body together using a flat seam. Sew Base to Body, leaving an opening for stuffing. Stuff Body firmly and sew the opening closed. Stuff Tail and attach it to the Body. Using felt, cut out eyes, nose, mouth, and whiskers.
