How to Knit a Stylish Bag Using Rowan Yarns

You’ll Need:

100g of Rowan Summer Tweed yarn in crimson color (A);

100g of Rowan All Seasons Cotton yarn in pink color (B);

Knitting needles size 4.5;

Tapestry needle.

29 x 28 cm (without handles).

Instructions

Front

Cast on 55 sts with knitting needles size 4.5 and yarn A.

1^st row: knit;

2^nd row: purl.

These 2 rows form stockinette stitch.

3^rd-42^nd rows: stockinette stitch according to the scheme, start with RS row.

Repeat 3^rd-22^nd rows, then, 7^th-22^nd rows, then, 7^th-10^th rows, finishing on WS. Then, work with yarn B.

43^rd row: knit;

44^th row: purl;

45^th-46^th rows: repeat the previous 2 rows;

Then, work with yarn A.

47^th-74^th rows: stockinette stitch according to the scheme, starting with RS row – make 9^th-22^nd rows, repeat 7^th-20^th rows, finishing on WS. Then, work with yarn B.

75^th-76^th rows: as 43^rd and 44^th rows;

77^th row: as 43^rd row;

78^th row: knit.

Then, work with yarn A.

79^th-82^nd rows: as 43^rd and 44^th rows, finishing on WS. Bind off all the sts.

Back

Cast on 55 sts with knitting needles size 4.5 and yarn A.

1^st row: knit;

2^nd row: purl;

3^rd-42^nd rows: repeat 1^st-2^nd rows, finishing on WS.

Then, work with yarn B.

43^rd-46^th rows: repeat 1^st-2^nd rows.

Then, work with yarn A.

47-74^th rows: repeat 1^st-2^nd rows.

Then, work with yarn B.

75^th-76^th rows: repeat 1^st-2^nd rows.

77^th row: as 1^st row;

78^th row: knit.

Then, work with yarn A.

79^th-82^nd rows: repeat 1^st-2^nd rows, finishing on WS.

Bind off all the sts.

Handles

Make 2.

Cast on 7 sts with knitting needles size 4.5 and yarn B.

1^st row: knit;

2^nd row: 1 knit st, 5 purls, 1 knit st.

Repeat these rows until the length of handle reaches 46 cm.

Assembly

Sew all the edges together using a mattress stitch, starting from the upper corner. Sew the handles.
