  • 50 yds. DK/worsted wt. 100% cotton chenille, or other cotton yarn that works to gauge
  • Size H (5.00 mm) hook, or size needed to achieve gauge
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge: 11 dc & 6 rows = 4” with sport wt. chenille on size H hook

Stitches/Terms

Beginning (beg), chain (ch), double crochet (dc), each (ea), loop (lp), repeat (rep), single crochet (sc), skip (sk), slip stitch (sl st), space (sp), stitch (st)

Pattern Notes

Facecloth is worked in rounds with slip stitch join at end of each round and chain-up to begin new round. Do not turn at end of rounds but continue in the same direction around cloth.

Special Stitches

Shell point: Work [dc, (ch 1, dc)4x] all in the same stitch.

Facecloth Instructions

Rnd 1: Make beginning ring (either ch 4, join into ring, or use magic loop beginning method), ch 3, work 11 dc in ring, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 (12 dc)

Rnd 2 (Inc Rnd): Ch 3, dc in same dc at base of beg ch, *2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3, do not turn (24 dc)

Rnd 3: *Ch 3, sc in next dc, rep from * around, ending last rep ch 3, join with sl st at base of beg ch-3, do not turn (24 ch-3 lps)

Rnd 4 (Inc Rnd): Sl st into first ch-3 lp, ch 3, 2 dc in same lp, dc in each of next 2 lps, *3 dc in next lp, dc in each of next 2 lps, rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3, do not turn (40 dc).

Rnd 5 (Inc Rnd): Ch 3, dc in same dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, *2 dc in next dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in next 2 dc, rep from * around, join with sl st in top of beg ch-3, do not turn (56 dc)

Rnd 6 (Shell Point Rnd): Ch 1, sc in same dc, sk next dc, *in next dc work [dc, (ch 1, dc)4x] (shell point completed), sk next dc, sc in next 4 dc, sk next dc, rep from * around ending last rep sc in last 3 dc, join with sl st to beg sc, do not turn (8 shell points with 4 sc between each shell)

Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in same sc, *(ch 3, sk next dc, sc in next ch-1 sp)4x, sk next dc, sc in next 4 sc, rep from * around ending last rep sc in last 3 sc, join with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off and weave in tails.
