How to Crochet a Black and White Sweater with Broomstick Pattern


You’ll Need:
450 (500) 500g of black Marrakesch yarn (68% viscose, 32% polyester; 115m/50g);
100g of the same yarn, but in white color;
50g of beige Kid Silk yarn (75% mohair, 25% silk; 224m/25g);
Crochet hook 4;
Auxiliary needle or broomstick needle.
Size:
S (M) L.
Used Patterns
Main Pattern 1:
Half crochets. Start every row with 2 chain sts increase instead of the 1st half crochet and finish with 1 half crochet in the 2nd chain st increase of the previous row.
Main Pattern 2:
Single crochets. Start every row with 1 extra chain st increase and finish with 1 single crochet in the 1st single crochet of the previous row.
Broomstick Pattern:
The quantity of sts is multiple of 6. Start with 1 WS row.
1st row (WS): single crochets;
2nd row (RS): single crochets;
3rd row (WS): don’t turn work from left to right, draw the last st of RS row and leave it on the auxiliary needle (= 1st st of WS row). Draw st in every next st and leave them on the auxiliary needle;
4th row (RS): transfer 6 previously left sts to crochet hook, draw 1 st, 1 chain st increase and make these 6 sts together with 6 single crochets, *cast on 6 sts from the auxiliary needle to crochet hook, draw 1 st, make these 6 sts together with 6 single crochets*; repeat from * to *. Repeat 1st-4th rows x once, then, repeat 3rd-4th rows.
Stripes Order:
5 black rows of main pattern 1, 2 white rows of single crochets, 2 black rows of single crochets, continue work with main pattern 1 in black yarn.
Stitches Control:
Main Pattern 1: 16 sts x 14 rows = 10 x 10 cm;
Main Pattern 2: 16 sts x 20 rows = 10 x 10 cm.
Instructions
Back:
Make 68 (76) 84 chain sts + 2 chain sts increase with black yarn and work due to the stripes order. In 58 cm from the set-up row, skip the central 18 sts for neck-hole and finish both sides separately. Finish your work on the rest 25 (29) 33 sts of shoulder in 60 cm from the set-up row.
Left Front:
Make 25 (29) 33 chain sts + 2 chain sts increase and work due to the stripes order. Finish your work in 60 cm.
Right Front:
Make in the same way as left front.
Sleeves:
Work from up to down. For each sleeve make 61 (68) 74 chain sts + 2 chain sts increase and work with main pattern 1. For sleeve chamfer, skip 4 x 1 st in every 5th row from both sides = 54 (60) 66 sts. In 17 cm from the set-up row, make 4 rows with broomstick pattern with white yarn and then continue work due to the stripes order. In 9 cm from the beginning of stripes order, make 6 more rows with broomstick pattern with white yarn and finish your work. Total length of sleeve is about 35 cm.
Assembly:
Make shoulder seams, sew up the sleeves, make side and sleeve seams. For neck-hole and front plackets, make 24 chain sts with Kid Silk yarn and work with broomstick pattern. In 78 cm from the set-up row, finish your work with 1 row of single crochets. Fasten the set-up row of placket with broomstick pattern and in 78 cm from the beginning, finish your work with 1 row of single crochets. Fasten the edges of front and back neck-hole with 3 rows of single crochets with Kid Silk yarn.
