Crochet Ribbed Unisex Beanie

Materials Required
For this project you’ll need:
- HOOK: 5 mm hook or size H hook for the US
- YARN: I used worsted weight yarn, 4 ply US, 10 ply AU
- Each Skein was – 100 grams / 3.5 oz or 210 meters / 230 yards
You can use scrap yarn for the strap because it really doesn’t take much yarn at all. But I recommend making sure you have most if not all of the skein of color you wish to use for your Main Color (MC).
Beanie Sizes
- 1-3 Years: Stop increasing after round 4. You should have 48 sts.
- 4 Years Old to Adults: Follow the pattern from start to end. You should have 60 sts.
If making this hat for a man with a large head – then feel free to do one more row of increases (DC in next 5 then inc) to bring you up to 72 sts.
Color Referencing
I will be referring to my colors as follows:
- MC: Main Color
- SeC: Second Color and Strip Color
Abbreviations
- ch = Chain
- sl st = Slip Stitch
- FLO = Front Loop Only
- BLO = Back Loop Only
- beg = beginning
- DC = Double Crochet
- FPDC = Front Post Double Crochet
- BPDC = Back Post Double Crochet
- CS = Crab Stitch

To Start: Using MC
Ch 3 and sl st in beg ch to form a ring.
Round 1 (MC)
ch 2 (counts as 1st stitch) DC 11 into ring. Sl st in beg ch to end. (12)
Round 2 (MC)
ch 2 (counts as 1st stitch) DC in same beg st. DC 2 in all sts. Sl st in beg ch to end. (24)
Round 3 (MC)
ch 2 (counts as 1st stitch) *DC 2 in next st. DC 1 in next st* repeat for round. Sl st in beg ch to end. (36)
Round 4 (MC)
ch 2 (counts as 1st stitch) DC 1 in next st. *DC 2 in next st, DC 1 in the next 2 sts* repeat for round. Sl st in beg ch to end. (48)
Round 5 (MC)
ch 2 (counts as 1st stitch) DC 1 in next two sts. *DC 2 in next st, DC 1 in the next 3 sts* repeat for round. Sl st in beg ch to end. (60)
Round 6 (MC)

Round 13 (Change to SeC Color)
This is our 2nd round of Clusters
Ch 1. For this round, we’ll be using those unused back loops to create our clusters in.
Yo insert your hook into the first BL of the stitch, pull up a loop. YO and pull through two loops, leaving the last loop on the hook. YO insert your hook into the next BL of the stitch, pull up a loop. YO and pull through two loops, leaving the last loop on the hook. (3 loops on the hook) YO and pull through all 3 loops and ch 1. Repeat for round. Sl st in beg st to end. Change color.
Round 14 (Change to SeC Color)
ch 2 (counts as 1st stitch) DC in rest of your 59 sts.
Rounds 15 – 19 (MC) (5 Rounds)
Repeat rows 6 – 10.
Sl st and cut yarn, leaving a tail to be woven in with a tapestry needle.
